It’s a special day for me. Today’s my birthday. When i woke up, I really forgot that it's my birthday n only when I went downstairs to on the TV to watch my tennis then I saw Helen n she wished me "happy birthday". For awhile I was spaced out. My birthday? Oh ya...
Watched more tennis matches this morning. All the good ones man...then i packed all the bread into a carton box, or rather, 2 boxes to my mum's colleague n sent hem to Marriott hotel in the afternoon. but juz before I left, Helen n Paul got me a truffle cake. Felt like home. Helen gave me a hug in the kitchen n said that u're part of the family. "You’ve been adopted by us". hahahhaa...so many mothers I have now.
We had champagne n coffee with the cake. Paul n Helen got me different types of beer, champagne, red n white wine as a gift. They were all packed like a mini hamper. So sweet of them. I only told Helen once that I like bitter beer n she went to the shop n asked the guy to get some bitter beer n wrapped them up.
I had dinner at my fren's place. We had Jap food. My Jap "mother" cooked for us. It was a feast. We couldn’t finish the food. They wanted to surprise me with a party. In fact they planned to do so next week coz all of them can't remember the exact date of my birthday. hahhaha. Instead, I surprised them with the cake n the liquor.
I’ve got some recipes from my fren. Will make them for Helen n Paul to try when they're not on diet. It’s so nice esp'ly the cold noodles. Mind u, it was a recipe from the chef in tetsuya. i forgot to mention that yesterday, i cooked chicken wings for dinner.
I marinated the wings in light n dark soy plus pepper n a little five-spice powder. Then I pan fry it, threw in some Chinese melon n let them cook for a while. Meanwhile i had a pot of boiling water with carrots and shallots. Then i poured the wings into the boiling stock n allow it to boil for abt 10mins. Turned down heat to simmer for abt 30 mins. man..that was delicious. I saved some of the soup for Helen and she liked it.
I knew she’d like it. She’s very adventurous when it comes to food. Good palate she's got!
Well, my day flew by but it was a memorable one. i wish it's my birthday everyday.
