The last two days I was busy preparing for the lunch feast we had yesterday. We had such an enjoyable time! the kitchen was full of chefs! Helen n Paul invited don’s present n ex wife plus her husband for the lunch. It was successful.
I cooked three small chickens in dark soy sauce, star anise, black peppercorn, five spice powder n water. Altho some parts of the chicken were not brown, the flavour was good. I dunno why that happened. Baobao told me that maybe I should blanch the chicken or leave it out to dry completely before cooking it. I’ll try to find out. And my char siu…I’ve perfected it!!!! even baobao was at a loss for words when I took it out of the oven. The dumplings as usual never fail to impress. I also made a bread n butter pudding for dessert. Didn’t eat that coz I tried it at coffee club. It was the coffee club’s chef’s recipe. Helen n company loved it. hmmm..i didn’t think too much about it. not bad.
I wish every week we can have this kinda party. Tiring but definitely worth it. I enjoy the company of this grp of frens I have here. we’re gonna split up coz nuch n baobao leaving. So sad.
This week we’re making cakes. Tmrw we’ll b making cheesecakes. Today I made a buttercream (hazelnut) gateaux for paul n helen coz they were going over to don’s ex wife’s home for dinner. I used the sponge cake n sliced into three layers, filled it up with a thin layer of choc ganache n coated it with hazelnut buttercream. I am never a fan of buttercream but this buttercream is extraordinary. Inf act, till now, everything I’ve made had been amazing. Whether it’s done at home or in school, there’s always sthg special.
The situation back home is worrying. Altho I’m having fun here, I’m also worried for all of u. SARS is highly contagious. U guyz want me to get mask for u all??? So far 3 pple have gotten SARS here. I just heard from baobao juz now. The virus is haunting us. Pls take care. Drink lotsa water. Forget abt those herbal medicine. Water’s the best for u.
