i'm off today but i down with a flu. darn! that's not the way to spend my dday off. can't play tennis which i've been yearning to do so since last week. booked the court already. :(
i've been thinking abt taking a break from work n just stay at home n chill out. seriously, i need to take good care of my health if not, i can't do anything. n that's really really sad. i've not read the straits times for the alst few days till this morning.
i particularly enjoyed reading laurel teo's article. not becoz we share the same name but her point on how we're alienating the older people by injecting young blood in the govt. of course, it's good for the most of us as we're all in our twenties. therefore, the policies n changes shd work well for us. but imagine when u're 40yrs old n the country which u are born in, the country that u've contributed to economically, deem u as old n even useless. hence u shd not be employed as u no longer can contribute to the company. that's a scary thought.
i sympathize with this grp of pple especially pple around the 40s n above. these are the ones who brught singapore to where we are today but jsut as we are reaping the benefits outta their hardwork, we dump them aside n say they can no longer work. that's really unfair! we'll fall into this grp in another 20 yrs' time n i wanna say that i dun want to be alienated, i dun wanna be deem as useless. to make matters worse, the govt is contemplating raising the retirement age. well, if companies wanna employ above 40 staff, of course i'm fine with it. but that's not gonna happen. it's gonna be a chore to even live up to 45 yrs old.
fortunate for those who've migrated. u'll be treated as 2nd of 3rd class citizens in a foreign land but if u're treated like a 2nd class citizen in the very own country u've been born in, n the society in which u've contributed to for 20+ yrs... it's not worth it.
people, i urge u all to treat the so-called "older people" like gold. they have in them the wealth of experience n tolerance level which we youth do not have sufficiently. if singapore wanna propel itself to greater heights, we need to learn these values from them.
